Fertility FAQ’s

I’m undergoing IVF. When should I get acupuncture?

It is best to come in for treatment as early in the process as possible so that we can address and treat any foundational health issues. Acupuncture increases blood flow and oxygen to the uterus which increases the thickness of the endometrial lining, allowing for a more hospitable environment for implantation. It improves egg quality, especially for women who are a bit older.

For Retrieval, we recommend you come in the night before or morning of. For Transfer, we recommend you come in the day before the Transfer and then immediately after the Transfer.

I’m undergoing IUI. When should I get acupuncture?

Receiving acupuncture as you’re undergoing hormone therapy will help your body to metabolize and assimilate the medication, reducing toxicity and side effects. It also improves the thickness and quality of the endometrial lining. Receiving acupuncture the day before or morning of the IUI and again within the first week will contribute to the success of the implantation and ease anxiety. Because we see such good results for acupuncture before AND after IUI, we are open 7 days a week to accommodate the often last minute scheduling of IUIs.

Does insurance cover acupuncture treatments?

There are a growing number of insurance companies in Illinois that cover acupuncture treatment. However, we encourage patients to check with their particular insurance carrier to inquire about coverage. We have office staff trained in insurance coding who can provide the official diagnosis and procedure codes required by insurance companies. We will gladly provide patients with a receipt of services listing the appropriate codes to submit to their insurance for reimbursement.
