We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.
The skin is the largest organ in the body, so it makes sense that even minor skin irritations can have a big effect on our well being.
The treatment of skin disorders is a recognized specialty in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and has been in use since 1100 to 221 B.C. in China. Acne, rosacea, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis and other skin diseases can be painful, irritating, and emotionally draining—especially for teens and children. Luckily, they can be successfully resolved, as we see often in our Practice.
Skin conditions may look similar on different people but the root causes are unique to each person and will be diagnosed and treated accordingly. Chinese medicine looks at all areas of the individual’s health—especially diet and lifestyle. Acupuncture, custom Chinese herbal medicine, and specific dietary recommendations are the key to eliminating acute and chronic skin conditions. In combination they can strengthen the immune system, balance the internal organ systems, release toxins from the skin to eliminate topical irritations like rashes, and build the yin and blood to help deeply nourish and repair damaged skin.
In comparison to conventional medicine treatment for skin conditions, which include steroids and topical creams that temporarily calm itching and lesions, Chinese medicine may not provide the ‘quick fix’ that western pharmaceuticals provide, however, the effects of acupuncture and Chinese medicine heal the body for complete recovery of the acute and chronic skin conditions. You are healing from the inside out.
